There’s nothing like a horrible Thursday Night Fantasy Football outing to get fantasy football owners down for the week. It generally happens with the mid-week game Cedric Jersey , and it surely happened again this week as the Seattle Seahawks slapped around the Arizona Cardinals in the desert.
We anticipated a defensive battle, and for the most part Arizona help their own early and that’s pretty much what we got. But thanks to Carson Palmer, instead of a hard-fought nail-biter, a closely contested game turned into somewhat of a blowout. A late touchdown drive by the Cardinals made the score look closer than it really was at 34-22, but it was simply a time-sucking strategy on defense for the Seahawks.
As rough of a game as it really was (unless you’re a Seahawks fan), at least there was some stuff for fantasy owners to take away from this one as they re-check their players from this matchup going into week eight. Let’s break down last night’s contest from a fantasy angle:
Carson Palmer Keeps on Pickin’
Carson Palmer entered the week seven matchup with 11 interceptions thrown. We all could see the writing on the wall that more would soon follow. That indeed happened Bruno Alves Jersey , as Palmer toss two interceptions and even fumbled a ball on a night where he (by my count) could have easily thrown 4-5 picks. He also almost had one returned for a touchdown, but we’ll get to that in a bit. The sad point is, Palmer’s once strong arm looked week and his always non-existent mobility was exposed yet again. It looks like the experiment with Palmer in the desert isn’t going so hot and it’s likely Arizona will make a quarterback switch in the coming weeks. Even if they stick with Palmer, they’re bound to draft a new passer in next year’s draft and you can’t trust him in the fantasy realm.
Brandon Browner Had a “Doh!” Moment
Browner picked off Palmer’s second pass of the night and had a sure touchdown return in his sights, until he lost his footing on the AZ grass and fell just short of the goal-line. The good thing was it ended Browner’s personal interception drought, as he registered his first pick of 2013. Unfortunately Bernardo Silva Jersey , fantasy owners rolling with the dominant Seattle team defense in fantasy leagues had to be pretty disappointed when they saw a guaranteed six extra points slip away in a matter of seconds. It got a good laugh out of the coaches and players on Seattle’s sidelines, though, so hopefully it didn’t ruin anyone’s night. Except for Palmer’s. And the Cardinals.
Marshawn Lynch Can’t Be Stopped
Lynch has been a bit of a steam engine as of late, and he simply continued that on against the Cardinals last night. Arizona was at home and boasts a pretty aggressive defense that contained him fairly well early on. However, turnovers and being down in this one ended up letting Lynch power through and pound out some solid numbers once again. Lynch ended the day with a short touchdown plunge and should have had another. He tacked on 91 rushing yards and another three through the air. He should keep up the top-end production for the foreseeable future.
Larry Fitzgerald Can Be Stopped
While Lynch is a major problem for opposing defenses, Fitzgerald really hasn’t been. He did crush it in week one with two scores and had over 100 yards and a score last week Anthony Lopes Jersey , but otherwise hamstring woes and Palmer’s ineffectiveness have curbed him in fantasy circles. That wasn’t any different on Thursday night, as Fitz has to work against arguably the best corner duo in the entire league on a less than 100% hamstring. He ended the night with just two catches for 17 yards on five targets. Luckily he’s heading into a bye week, so hopefully he’ll dive into week nine at full health.
