Cleveland Browns:“Browns name rookie Baker Mayfield their 30th starting quarterback since 1999” (ABJ) - “The Browns hope the 30th time is the charm. Hayes sacked Derek Carr on third down...” The Browns extended running back Duke Johnson’s contract this offseason, but they haven’t increased his role, or even maintained it through the season’s first five weeks.Although he played 51 percent of team’s offensive snaps last week, a sharp increase, that bump was primarily due to game flow.“Duke, I think he played more plays than normal,” offensive coordinator Todd Haley said of Johnson’s usage in Week 5. “We were in third down a bunch and two-minute, and at the end of the game two-minute www.brownsauthorizedshops.com , we had a lot of situations that got him in there, but I thought he made the most of his opportunities.”Johnson is being leaned on for his pass-blocking ability, and the threat he provides as a receiver out of the backfield, but he isn’t getting the ball very often. To this point he has just 17 attempts and 17 targets, although he’s performing well enough with 4.4 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per catch.“In these last three or four weeks I’ve been blocking more than I’ve blocked since I’ve been in the NFL and I’m taking pride in it,” Johnson told cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “I’m having fun doing it because it gives Baker (Mayfield) and our team a chance to win.’’Being a “team guy” doesn’t mean players should always feel completely satisfied with their roles, especially if they believe they can help make things easier for their teammates.Johnson, somewhat disgruntled in what he feels has been an under utilization of his skills thus far, confided in veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor on Thursday.“He told me to just be more positive,’’ Johnson said, per Cabot. “Just focus on all the good. It’s not all bad. It’s not all good. You’re going to have some days when you’re not feeling so well. Just find a way to get through it.”“It could be frustrating but it wasn’t over the top,’’ Johnson added.“Just trying to figure it out.’’While Johnson is getting “pick-me-ups” from his captain, Haley doesn’t view managing his running back rotation as a problem Cleveland Browns Womens T-Shirt , although he recognizes the challenge it presents. He ultimately believes handling it properly is “part of the recipe” for fielding a successful offense.“You want all of your players involved. At running back, sometimes that is a little tougher than others,” Haley added. “You can’t just run him out there.”Coach Hue Jackson continues to advocate for a bump in Johnson’s role, but nothing appears to have changed. The head coach joined Haley in expressing the difficulty in keeping everyone happy with their individual gameday involvement.Acknowledging that difficulty, Jackson didn’t hold any punches with his response to any potential role-related unhappiness in the locker room.“This is about winning. It is not about personal stats or personal pride or any of that,” he said. “It is about our football team, and that is what we talk about more than anything.”No one should suggest Johnson doesn’t want to win or do what’s best for his team. He has and continues to do whatever’s necessary. It just seems like it’s pretty obvious to everyone except for Jackson and Haley that he has the tools to contribute more towards that goal than they are allowing. While lip service and praise from his coaches is nice, it’d be nicer if their words resulted in changes on Sundays.“Duke is very talented,” Jackson said on Wednesday. “Obviously, when he has the ball in his hands, good things happen.”It seems like doing “good things” is something that should be pretty high up there on the gameplan priority list.Let’s hope Johnson is afforded some more opportunities to do them. It feels odd that the Cleveland Browns are toying with the idea of signing a 30-year-old Dez Bryant.Bryant http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/christian-kirksey-jersey , it has been said, is holding out and positioning himself to land on a “contender.” If you are not new to following the Browns, then you know they have been heavily contending for No. 1 picks for as long as anyone can remember, not winning games. But that perception is changing, and maybe Bryant thinks he can be a big part of the Browns turnaround everyone seems to think is brewing in Berea. That or he’s asking for a lot of money, which the Browns have to offer, or maybe a little bit of both can be true.Bryant has, if nothing else, proven himself to be one of the 10 best receivers in the NFL during the span of his impressive seven-year career, all of them played in Dallas. Things have changed over the last three seasons, though, which ultimately resulted in his unceremonious release by the Cowboys this offseason. Is he running out of gas? Is he trying to cash in one last time while people can still associate his talent level with the three consecutive 1,000-plus yard seasons he racked up—all with Tony Romo playing quarterback—from 2013 to 2015? These are very relevant questions, but not ones that are headlining the conversation about his potential fit in Cleveland.Bryant’s fall from grace in Dallas http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/joe-schobert-jersey , where he was allegedly a “locker room” instigator who demanded more involvement and targets from Dak Prescott—Dallas’ new, young, mobile, and not-Tony Romo replacement quarterback—is somewhat worrisome. But wanting the ball is hardly a crime, unless it runs against the interests of the team, then that’s where problems can start. The Cowboys clearly wanted to move in a new direction after drafting Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott, and then building one of the best offensive lines in football. For all of his strengths, Prescott is not Romo as a vertical passer. He is a fine young player, but Bryant’s skill-set was no longer as valuable to the team—although, it seems strange they no longer had use for a dominant red-zone receiver capable of winning numerous ways for touchdowns.Bryant’s recent Twitterstorm revealed the problems in Dallas extended beyond Prescott, and his unhappiness created a divide that ultimately made it untenable to keep him there. That brings us to today, where general manager John Dorsey and coach Hue Jackson have to decide if Bryant’s current talent level can justify the risk of him coming into to their refreshed locker room, getting along, and again being the player he’s capable of being.Personally http://www.clevelandbrownsteamonline.com/seth-devalve-jersey , I have heard from numerous Dallas beat writers who laud Bryant for his work ethic. He is a tireless worker, proud of what he has achieved, and wants to win championships. The biggest issue, as many know, is that he wants the ball more because he thinks that will help his team win. Because he believes in himself that much. If Bryant’s name was left out of that first sentence, it would sound like a perfect description for new Browns receiver Jarvis Landry. Landry has been a consummate professional since coming to Cleveland, and he has the young Browns believing their future has a different trajectory than the one win they have achieved over the last two seasons. While the Browns may not be contenders per se, that perception is changing, and maybe Bryant will be a part of it.But we have to go back to the question as to whether he will be a team player, or will he be a “me” player. Will he be content if Corey Coleman plays 30 percent of “his” snaps in a game if Todd Haley’s game plan calls for it? Will he create a divide in a blossoming locker room that has a group of young, talented players who are and have been putting in hard work? These are valid concerns. These are the issues that are possibly holding up negotiations. Bryant is a very good player. He knows it. His coaches knew it. The Browns know it. But is he more interested in the team’s greater success, or in the Dez image? No one knows what actually went down in Dallas. There are differing opinions on what Bryant allegedly did to be dismissed by the only NFL team he has ever played for. So the best we can do is wait to see what the Browns end up deciding, depending how they view his falling out from Dallas, and that is assuming he is even truly considering the team. For my money—and it’s not Womens Emmanuel Ogbah Jersey , but the Browns have a ton of it available for moves like this—it seems like a great decision to bring Bryant in to give the team another veteran who has worked his tail off and found great success in the league. He is driven by that success, upset by his recent situation in Dallas, and has several good seasons left in the tank. Any younger player who watches Bryant prepare and perform on game days would be lucky to have that kind of leadership as they try to replicate that success in their own careers.C.J. Board and James Burgess injured in Browns preseason finale To this point, linebacker James Burgess and receiver C.J. Board had been making good impressions on the Cleveland Browns as they competed for roster spots. But both were injured in Detroit on Thursday, leaving the game in the second quarter.Board injured his shoulder and was sent to the locker room, then given a questionable tag on whether he’d return. Because he’s competing for a roster spot, he will potentially see the field again if his injury isn’t significant. Moments later, Burgess left with an apparent head injury. It was announced soon after to media in the press box that he was being evaluated for a concussion.Burgess was and is likely going to make the Browns’ 53-man roster, but if he has a concussion that would potentially make him unavailable for next week’s season opener against Pittsburgh that could complicate things. Although, depth concerns stemming from the team’s surprise release of Mychal Kendricks on Wednesday makes that unlikely. While Board was making a strong push for a spot—he has been a favorite target for Baker Mayfield throughout the preseason and training camp, as well as a solid special teams contributor—any kind of significant shoulder injury would likely land him on injured reserve, making him no longer part of the equation. We’ll keep you updated on the extent of their injuries as more information becomes available. Bitonio Back at Left Guard? One of the bigger headlines for Day 13 of camp was the fact that Greg Robinson got some first-team reps at left tackle, with Joel Bitonio sliding back to left guard. Fear not, though — head coach Hue Jackson said after practice that it means nothing, and they are simply getting players some work. Here is Bitonio working with his hands in individual drills.3. Football against the Kansas City Chiefs and the pollsters rewarded their performance- some more than others. It should be no surprise that the lone undefeated team Kenny Britt Jersey Salute to Service , the Los Angeles Rams, still hold the top spot in this week’s power rankings, while there appears to be a three-horse race for second place among the Patriots, New Orleans Saints (on a bye week), and...the Chiefs? One intrepid power ranker even decided to put the Patriots behind the Minnesota Vikings for good measure. But of the Patriots-Saints-Chiefs trio, only one placed the Patriots behind the Chiefs and I actually appreciate the sentiment. They give the Chiefs credit for taking the Patriots to the wire at Gillette Stadium without Eric Berry or Justin Houston. In reality, the Patriots and Saints are the real favorites for the #2 spot and the Saints are coming off a bye week. New Orleans has the best offense in the league and one of the worst defenses, in a more extreme version of the Patriots’ performance this season. I’d personally take the Patriots over the Saints, but pollsters are still penalizing the Patriots for losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Detroit Lions, while the Saints only lost their opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints have a brutal stretch over the next six weeks, with games on the road against the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings Authentic Cordarrelle Patterson Jersey , and Cincinnati Bengals, while they host the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons. We’ll find out if they’re truly deserving of one of top rankings over the coming weeks.Around the AFC East:(4-2) New England Patriots at (3-2) Chicago Bears(4-2) Miami Dolphins vs (2-3) Detroit Lions(3-3) New York Jets vs (3-2-1-) Minnesota Vikings(2-4) Buffalo Bills at (1-5) Indianapolis ColtsAFC Matchups:(4-2) Cincinnati Bengals at (5-1) Kansas City Chiefs(4-1) New Orleans Saints at (4-2) Baltimore Ravens(3-3) Tennessee Titans) at (4-2) Los Angeles Chargers(3-3) Houston Texans at (3-3) Jacksonville Jaguars(2-3-1) Cleveland Browns at (2-3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers(2-4) Denver Broncos at (1-5) Arizona CardinalsBye Weeks: (3-2-1) Pittsburgh Steelers, (1-5) Oakland Raiders - MMQB Staff (SI): Perhaps the Patriots’ three-week climb back toward the top is proof that we shouldn’t be so quick to move teams up or down. But they can’t reclaim their preseason spot at No. 1 until the Rams lose.2nd - Experts (ESPN): Playoff chances: 89.4 percent. It looks like the only thing that could derail the Patriots’ playoff chances would be an injury to Tom Brady or his WR corps. Brady is completing 72 percent of his passes with 9.3 yards per attempt to WRs in his past three games, compared with 57 percent and 5.5 yards per attempt during his first three games.2nd - Joe Giglio (NJ.com): The AFC still goes through the Patriots. Defense is still suspect to big talent and speed, but Tom Brady and his offensive weapons can score with anyone.2nd - Nate Davis (USA Today): Sony Michel has little shot of overtaking Saquon Barkley in ROY race, but he does lead all first-year backs with 80 rush yards per game.2nd - Expert Consensus (Bleacher Report): We’ve figured it out. The Patriots stumble in September to troll the media. Give us something to talk about. Or they might just be bored after owning the AFC for the last decade-and-a-half.Either way, every time people start hand-wringing about the Pats, they wind up with egg on their faces and crow on their plate. As the Pats demonstrated quite clearly in taking down the AFC’s last undefeated team in Week 6, they’re just fine—thank you very much. After a 1-2 start, the Pats have reeled off three straight wins Limited Jeremy Hill Jersey , scoring at least 38 points in each. This offense could be downright scary, as Sobleski pointed out:”The Patriots proved they’re still the team to beat in the AFC after a Sunday night takedown of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are loaded on offense yet play little to no defense. New England may not feature the league’s best defense. However, it can at least stop someone once or twice. Plus, the Patriots offense is only going to get better as Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman become more comfortable.”The AFC’s big bad is still both. What a game.2nd - Joshua Schrock (NESN): Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs shredded New England’s defense, but Brady saved the day by engineering a game-winning drive to once again assert the Patriots’ dominance in the AFC.2nd - Rebecca Toback (SB Nation): The Patriots proved on Sunday that we were all crazy for doubting them during their 1-2 start to the season. New England beat Kansas City on Sunday Night Football in the shootout we all expected. It was a thriller that has the Patriots climbing up the Week 7 NFL power rankings and landing at the No. 2 spot, right ahead of the Chiefs. The Chiefs fought hard and almost staged an impressive comeback, but you can never count out Tom Brady and he proved to be the guy you want leading a game-winning fourth-quarter drive.2nd - Staff (AP Pro32).3rd - Frank Schwab (Yahoo! Sports): There were so many things to like about Sunday night’s game, but let’s not overlook kicker Stephen Gostkowski. He hit all nine kicks (five field goals, four extra points) and there was no doubt that he’d hit the game-winner as time expired. There’s something to be said about having a reliable kicker.3rd - Mark Maske (Washington Post): Remember that 1-2 start to the season? It’s a fading memory now. The Patriots have totaled 119 points while winning their last three games. The return of Julian Edelman and the addition of Josh Gordon have fixed the problems at WR. Now comes a trip to Chicago to face a Bears defense that ranks among the league’s best but couldn’t stop Brock Osweiler on Sunday in Miami.3rd - Pete Prisco (CBS Sports): They showed they could play with anybody in the league by beating the Chiefs. Getting the running game going is big for the offense.3rd - Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk): Go ahead and make those reservations for Atlanta in early February.5th - Bryan Fischer (Athlon Sports): Lost amid the furor of that wild win over the Chiefs was the fact that the Pats rushed for 173 yards. Given the limitations on defense, that’s a trend that will only help make this offense more dangerous and allow them to win shootouts and physical battles all the same.Week 7 Average Rank: 2.5 (+1.9) NATION SAMPLING:2nd - Brandon Lee Gowton (BleedingGreenNation): Still the kings of the AFC. Bill Belichick is now 6-2 against Andy Reid.2nd - David Fucillo (NinersNation) If you live in the United State, you probably noticed that midterm elections took place yesterday (you probably also noticed if you live abroad). While Pats Pulpit is no political outlet, we do cover developments regarding the New England Patriots and one such happened yesterday when former Patriot Anthony Gonzalez won his election to represent Ohio’s 16th congressional district in the House of Representatives.Gonzalez Jordan Matthews Jersey , who originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, came to New England as a free agent in March 2012. However, he never actually appeared in a game for the team as he was released by the Patriots just two months after joining them. The Ohio State product subsequently decided to end his career in professional football and instead earn his MBA at Stanford. In September 2017, Gonzalez announced his bid trying to fill a vacant House seat in his home state. With the help of donations from former Colts teammates Peyton Manning and Austin Collie — he himself also a short-time member of the Patriots —, the 34-year old was able to win the Republican nomination. Yesterday, Gonzalez defeated his Democratic opponent with a rather convincing 56.8%.Gonzalez is not the first ex-Patriot player to go into politics after his retirement. Former New England safety James Mildren, who was with the team in 1974, served as Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma from 1991 to 1995 representing the Democratic Party. On the other end of the political spectrum, Ex-Patriots running back Craig James (1984-1988) unsuccessfully tried to become the Republican nominee for a vacant Senate seat in 2012.
The New England Patriots came up empty on their first series after a missed field goal James Develin Jersey , giving the Jacksonville Jaguars the football in solid field position. The home team took advantage and the 7-0 lead. To make matters worse, the Patriots also lost one of their key defenders. Trey Flowers stayed on the ground following a second down play that saw teammate Keionta Davis’ knee hit him in the head.Flowers walked off the field under his own power, and into the blue medical tent. When he emerged Authentic LaAdrian Waddle Jersey , he walked straight into the locker room. There, as has been announced by the Patriots, he is currently being evaluated for a potential concussion. With the 25-year old in the concussion protocol and questionable to return Limited Shaq Mason Jersey , Davis and Deatrich Wise Jr. will see added snaps alongside Adrian Clayborn. While the Patriots have depth on their defensive edge, losing Flowers is undoubtably a blow for the defense. The Patriots are 30 minutes away from a playoff bye and a shot at grabbing the top seed in the AFC.They only need a win to ensure the No. 2 seed and they are up 21-3 over the Jets after the first half of play at Gillette Stadium. They’ll need the win and losses by both the Chiefs and Chargers in order to set up a playoff schedule that won’t require them to play a road game.Tom Brady has thrown three touchdown passes to three different players and he’s hooked up with seven different receivers overall on his way to going 16-of-22 for 165 yards. Sony Michel and James White have added 56 yards on 10 carries and the Patriots offense has the balance it was missing a week ago.The Jets have put together two drives into New England territory, but settled for a field goal on the first and saw the second end when Sam Darnold‘s fourth down pass to Robby Anderson into the end zone fell incomplete. Darnold is 7-of-13 for 81 yards in his first career game against the AFC East champions and also leads the team in rushing thanks to a 28-yard scramble.
City Chiefs Irving Fryar Jersey Salute to Service , but mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the Chiefs with a last-second field goal from Stephen Gostkowski. The final score was Patriots 43, Chiefs 40.Here’s the instant analysis from the game.First off .Tom Brady had a great, but not perfect, gameBrady finished the day completing 24 of 35 passes (68.6%) for 340 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 4-yard touchdown run. He led the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter and New England didn’t punt all day. Only one drive ended on the Patriots side of the field and six made it to the red zone. The Patriots offense was unstoppable all day.But he wasn’t perfect. Brady made a bone-headed decision to hold on to the football on third down and allowed the pressure to close in and the Chiefs forced and recovered the fumble on the Patriots 29-yard line. That was bad.Brady also missed a few open targets, including one weird pass by the goal line where he threw it a mile wide of Julian Edelman because he made a last-second decision to throw in a different direction. Weird move, Tom.Brady’s still the best quarterback for New England, but he’s been making some weird decisions this year. Hopefully he’ll settle down and the Patriots will finally be able to score 50 points. That was Brady’s 200th career regular season victory. Congrats, Tom!Sony Michel is now Money MichelMichel finished the day with 106 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns as he continues to show why he was a first round pick. Michel now has three straight games with 100+ yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, and has 316 rushing yards, 12 receiving yards, and 4 touchdowns over the past three games.Michel and White, a potential law firm in downtown Boston John Hannah Jersey , combined for 198 yards from scrimmage. Over the past three weeks, they’ve combined for 609 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns. That’s incredible production from the Patriots backfield. Are we concerned about Rob Gronkowski- oh, wait, there he isGronkowski finished the game with 97 yards on 3 catches, with a 42-yard grab and a 39-yard catch on the team’s final two drives. He was oddly quiet in the Patriots passing attack, especially with Chiefs safeties Eric Berry and Eric Murray both injured and not playing. And yet, there Gronk was, making big plays when it mattered most.Still, are people worried that Gronkowski isn’t producing more? He hasn’t scored a touchdown in five games, the longest stretch of his career. He was doing a great job blocking. Is he just biding his time to start racking up production?Week 6 Patriots vs Chiefs Thursday injury report: Chris Hogan misses practice The New England Patriots returned to the practice fields today to hold a walkthrough session leading up to their highly anticipated prime time matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. And while attendance was again good, it was – as opposed to yesterday – not perfect as a look at the latest injury report shows:Did not participateAfter being limited during yesterday’s session and being spotted in the locker room walking with a limp, wideout Chris Hogan was held out of today’s practice. The veteran, who has had an up-and-down season so far but was projected to benefit from Julian Edelman’s return to the lineup Authentic Tedy Bruschi Jersey , is one of New England’s top options at the position and a trusted weapon for quarterback Tom Brady.Four of the Chiefs’ top defenders remain out, meanwhile, which further hurts their chances of actually playing on Sunday. With the Patriots offense finding its groove recently, this could be a devastating situation for a defense that has not always been up to the challenge through its first five games.Limited participationWith the exception of Chris Hogan being downgraded, the list of limited participants remained the same as yesterday for New England. On a list of notable names, one stands out: Sony Michel, who dealt with a knee injury all summer long, remains limited. With the Patriots’ running back group not being as deep as it ideally would be, Michel’s injury situation is one worth keeping a close eye on from the team’s perspective.Chiefs wideout De’Anthony Thomas, meanwhile, is a new addition to the list. Thomas is a depth player on offense but an important piece of Kansas City’s special teams units.Full participationSpencer Ware was back on the practice field for the Chiefs today and just like his teammates listed as full participants will be good to go on Sunday.

Two fourth-quarter touchdowns were not enough to win the game or convince anyone in the New York locker room that answers had been found for season-long scoring woes that led to the Giants' fourth straight loss. The Giants (1-6) were frustrated by an Atlanta defense which has three starters on injured reserve and had allowed the second-most points and third-most yards per game in the NFL.After the game, Beckham sat facing his locker, holding his head in his hands before finally heading off to his shower. When he faced reporters later, he was calm but frustrated."It's the little things, the little pieces that you've got to put together, the little things that are the difference between losing and winning," Beckham said. "We just haven't found a way to put it all together."The statistics would suggest Beckham did his part with eight receptions for 143 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown catch with only 5 seconds remaining. The touchdown made the final score look more respectable, but it brought Beckham little comfort. He chastised himself for failing to catch a 2-point pass that could have cut the Falcons' lead to 20-14 with about five minutes remaining."That's something I have to go home with at night," he said. "That's tough."Despite having such weapons as Beckham, Sterling Shepard, who had five catches for 167 yards Cheap Saquon Barkley Jersey , rookie standout running back Saquon Barkley and two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Eli Manning, the Giants have found no answer to their season-long inability to turn yards into points."We know we have talent," said tight end Evan Engram. "We're doing things. We're just not putting the big picture together. That's what's frustrating. ... We're just going to keep working, and it will eventually pop."The Giants have scored no more than 20 points in five of their seven games."I can't give you the answer," Barkley said. "We're not executing. We're not finishing drives. That's the gist of our season. ... We've got to find a way to execute and finish our game."There were no turnovers to blame. Manning threw for 399 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, but he was sacked four times for a loss of 27 yards. Entering the game, the 37-year-old Manning had been sacked 20 times, third-most in the NFL.Barkley was held to 43 yards, his second-lowest total of the season, on 14 carries. He added nine catches for 51 yards."Honestly, personally I didn't play a good game," Barkley said. "... I wasn't the player I usually am."The difficulties in scoring might have influenced coach Pat Shurmur's aggressive play-calling.With Atlanta leading 10-3 early in the third quarter, Shurmur left his offense on the field for a fourth-down play from the Atlanta 1. Manning's pass for Scott Simonson was incomplete.Shurmur again left his offense on the field to go for a 2-point play after Barkley's 2-yard scoring run cut Atlanta's lead to 20-12 in the fourth quarter. Giants players supported the call, which ended with the incompletion to Beckham."He has faith in us that we're going to put it in the end zone," Shepard said. "I love that the coaches have faith in us."Added Beckham: "I like the call. I love being aggressive."Shurmur said analytics show "You increase your chances by 50 percent if you go for it and make it there, so that's what you do."Shurmur said going for 2 was "an aggressive approach. ... I think from a head coaching perspective, I want to be aggressive for our guys."
Thursday’s loss to Patriots What were New York Giants players saying after Thursday’s 17-12 preseason ending loss to the New England Patriots? Let’s go inside the locker room and find out.Donte Deayon on his two trophiesAs he was packing up to head out of the locker room Deayon was stuffing two footballs New York Giants Womens T-Shirt , the ones he intercepted on Thursday, into his equipment bag.“Man, it’s lovely,” Deayon said of seeing the footballs in his locker. “They are two Patriot ones, so it feels a little better.”Deayon on if he feels secure about making the roster “No, because honestly last year that’s how I felt going into the fourth game. I felt like I kind of laxed and it didn’t sit well with me. I had a little sick feeling in my stomach. Going into this game, I wanted to lock in, and got out there and give it my all. We’ll see what happens.“I won’t be nervous. At this point, I put it all out on the table, I put my best foot forward. At this point, what happens, happens.”Giants-Patriots: Was Kyle Lauletta’s night better than the stats indicated?Kyle Lauletta on starting the game“I was very excited. I mean, I have wanted to play more and obviously, I haven’t played a whole lot. Probably the first game was the most that I played, so to say, ‘Hey, you are going to get the start’ was big for me. I don’t think I was nervous. Any time you get out there, you’re a little bit amped up, but I don’t feel nervous. It’s more you just want to do well and you want to throw the balls so good and sometimes when you miss one, you really have to turn the page and move on. Sometimes that will haunt you and will cause you to make more mistakes. I felt comfortable back there; I just missed a couple [of throws], some by a yard or two, but it is what it is. We’ll move on and get ready for the season.Davis Webb on his preseason“I did the best I could and I think I got better each and every day. I feel confident where I’m at, and I know my teammates do. That’s the most important thing.” When it comes to building a roster in the NFL, every team in the NFL gets roughly the same resources. With every team limited to a 53-man roster, a hard salary cap New York Giants Hats , and roughly equivalent picks in the draft (when weighted against the team’s ability), the NFL has parity built into every step of the team building process. The biggest difference between a well-built team and a bad team is how the front office uses those resources, and how well their coaching staff puts the players in position to succeed. Whether it is in free agency or the draft, the name of the team-building game is getting value. The teams that use their resources the most wisely tend to have the greatest advantage. The Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles have embraced emerging analytics to make their processes, both team-building and game management, much more efficient. Meanwhile the New England Patriots have built a dynasty out of Bill Belichick’s rare philosophy of extreme honesty and flexibility, both in team construction and game-planning. But for all that, there is one avenue that teams are only just beginning to truly explore, and that are trades. Trading resources — be it players, draft picks or prospects, or money — is a common practice in the NBA or Major League Baseball. The NFL, however, is much more old-fashioned and conservative, but as teams have begun using the careful study of a massive amount of data points (aka: analytics) to help inform their decisions and not just setting limits and thresholds. One of the new frontiers in that study of data is using it to find value inefficiencies in trades, and exploiting them. With the NFL trade deadline (Oct. 30th, at 4 p.m.) fast approaching, sources around the league are speculating an unusually active market. Those leagues sources are expecting the Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders to be particularly active in dealing players. On the Scouts Honor podcast, long-time NFL scout Dave-te’ Thomas said on the Scouts Honor podcast that Jon Gruden is looking to blow up the Oakland Raiders roster. Thomas said, “He wants to put up Derek Carr, he wants to put up Amari Cooper, he wants to put up Karl Joseph. Who else is left over there, anyway?” The Giants likely wouldn’t have an interest in Carr or Cooper, and Thomas suggested that the Jacksonville Jaguars could be trading partners for Carr and Cooper. He added that they have almost no choice but to release Blake Bortles at the end of the season. He also threw out that a second round pick could be a potential price for Carr. Then there are the Arizona Cardinals, who are also sitting at 1-5, could also be putting some of their best players on the trading block as they retool for Steve Wilks’ vision of the team.“I have the feeling New York Giants Womens Hoodie ,” Thomas said on the podcast, “that if someone comes along and makes an offer on David Johnson, he’s out the door. Patrick Peterson, he’s another guy that they’re talking about. The two linebackers, Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick, they’re both out on the market right now. They just realize in Arizona that they don’t have a choice, they have to blow up the team and start again.” Thomas mentioned that in light of the culture clashes going on in the Cardinals’ locker room, the team likely regrets letting new Giants’ defensive coordinator James Bettcher leave. Peterson is obviously the biggest name put out as a potential trade piece. The All-Pro cornerback was once one of the most highly paid defenders in the NFL, but his salary over the next two seasons, $11 million in 2019 and $12 million in 2020, are a bargain for the caliber of player he is. Where the Giants’ come inBut what about the other players? What about the youngsters who could be on a team for a long time and are still on a relatively low-cost contract. Each of them was a former first round draft pick, have proven themselves to be capable players at the NFL level, and would likely cost much less than their original draft slots while teams look to recoup something for a player they will otherwise cut.If those trades materialize, those are the opportunities to exploit inefficiencies and add value to the roster.Safety Karl Joseph is an intriguing name for the Giants. Joseph was drafted in the first round (14th overall) of the 2016 draft, and is a dynamic downhill playmaker of a safety. He has the ability to play in man or zone coverage, and even matched up with Sterling Shepard in man coverage in the slot in college. He would be an intriguing option next to Landon Collins in James Bettcher’s defense. Bucannon and Reddick are also intriguing names for the Giants. Bettcher found a niche role for Bucannon in his defense as the “moneybacker”, using the former safety’s skill set as the weak inside linebacker. Meanwhile, Reddick was drafted specifically for Bettcher’s defense. What truly makes players like Bucannon, Joseph, or Reddick truly intriguing for the Giants is the value they represent. With the teams looking to move in other directions, they don’t present much value for their current teams. But with their age, between 24 and 26 years old, they each could be defensive stalwarts for the next five years. They are also proven NFL players who would likely be both better and more reliably productive than the players the team would select in the draft. There is also another factor to consider: The quarterback position. With the Giants currently holding the number one overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, fans and analysts are focusing on the quarterbacks currently projected to go at the top of the draft. However, Thomas isn’t particularly high on the names being thrown around right now. “If you look at the quarterbacks that are out there right now Womens Customized New York Giants Jerseys ,” Thomas said, “everybody is talking about the kid from Missouri [Drew Lock], he’s another Blaine Gabbert. Everybody’s talking about Justin Herbert, and it’s insane. Take a look at this guy’s track record outside of this year, he’s never played a full season, there’s always an injury coming up. Are you going to invest that money that you’re never going to see out on the football field? Honestly, I think the best option, if anybody is going to go for a quarterback right now, head on down to Duke. There’s a Blue Devil there that I think is really jumping up the board and that’s Daniel Jones.”If those quarterbacks truly don’t live up to the hype, could the Giants find value elsewhere? The coaches are very high on rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta, who’s poise, mobility, accuracy, and quick release fit well with Pat Shurmur’s scheme. In the podcast, Thomas mentioned that, though they deny it, the Giants had a draft-day deal in place for Minnesota Vikings’ back-up quarterback Kyle Sloter, but they didn’t pull the trigger. Sloter, 24, is a good-sized and athletic QB who is familiar with Shurmur and his system after last year in Minnesota. Shurmur seems to like Sloter, as the Vikings pursued him despite already having four QBs on the roster, after he was surprisingly cut by the Denver Broncos. A viable starting quarterback on a rookie contract is one of the greatest values a team can find. One on a mid to late-round rookie deal is a rare value indeed. So, should the Giants take advantage of other poor teams blowing up their rosters for a traditional NFL-style rebuild and trade for young players who could help speed up the Giants’ own rebuild?

And it isn’t over yet. The Giants will reportedly work out a number of players on Tuesday, many with names you will recognize.Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Giants will work out veteran quarterback Matt McGloin.McGloin was released by the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday afternoon. He was originally signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2013. McGloin spent the next four years in Oakland, before signing a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. in 2017. He was released by the Eagles in September, signed with the Houston Texans later that season after Deshaun Watson’s injury. He signed with the Chiefs in March of this year, and was with them through training camp and the pre-season before being released this weekend.Rapoport is also reporting that the Giants have a workout scheduled with former first-round wide receiver Breshad Perriman. Perriman was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Central Florida. The 6-foot-2 Perriman has incredible athleticism, reportedly running a 4.24 40-yard dash to go with a 36 1鈦? inch vertical leap and 10-foot, 7-inch broad jump. However, he suffered a knee injury his rookie year and has struggled with route running and catching the ball since returning from injury. Obviously, he will not work out for the Giants if he first signs with the New York Jets. The Giants are also reportedly working out defensive lineman Daeshon Hall, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, and WR/KR JoJo Natsun, formerly of the Jets. Hall was drafted by Dave Gettleman in the third round of the 2017 draft out of Texas A&M. He has a prototypical build for a defensive lineman with long arms and the frame to carry his weight well. He played outside linebacker, 4-3 defensive end, and the 5-technique in college. Hall missed all but one game last season after suffering a knee injury.JoJo Natson was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He was waived in final cuts and was signed by the Jets soon after. As a returner, Natson had 38 yards on 16 punt returns (2.4 yards per return) and 325 yards on 16 kick returns (20.3 yards per return).Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News is reporting the Giants will host a third potential returner, Quadree Henderson. Henderson was an undrafted free agent out of Pitt, and was regarded as one of the top return specialists in the country coming out of college. He doesn’t have blazing speed, running a 4.5 40-yard dash at the combine, but has remarkable short-area quickness and plays without hesitation as a returner. In college, Henderson averaged 26.6 yards per return (3 touchdowns) on kick-offs, with averages of 28.0 and 30.5 yards per return as a freshman and sophomore. As a punt returner as a sophomore and junior, he averaged 13.4 yards per return (15.8 and 11.6 yards per return, respectively), with another 3 touchdowns.
Francisco 49ers released NaVorro Bowman a few weeks into the 2017 season http://www.authenticssanfrancisco49ers.com/cheap-joe-staley-jersey , you could hear the collective gasp from the fanbase. Despite one gruesome knee injury, and later an achilles rupture, Bowman continued to be the heart and soul of the 49ers, holding the team together with the departures of Frank Gore and Patrick Willis. Bowman signed with the Oakland Raiders not too long after his release, contributed on their defense almost immediately and went into 2018 a free agent. And now, one year later, Bowman remains unsigned. It was a bit concerning to not see him snapped up when free agency began, but understandable for a veteran with Bowman’s to come in long after training camp begins. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume he may catch onto a team on their way to a 53 man roster. He’s had some visits, but as we are now into Week 2 of the 2018 NFL season and there’s nary a word. Keep in mind, this is the guy who combined with Patrick Willis to make two of the best middle linebackers in the NFL for multiple years. A three-time Pro Bowler. Teams should want Bowman, right?Well, not now, perhaps. The Bowman decision was polarizing with fans. Some knew he wasn’t in the long-term plans of John Lynch/Kyle Shanahan and felt it best he be released. Others wondered if the release, as well as the events leading up to the release were the correct decisions. Bowman began getting less playing time as Robert Saleh’s 4-3 defense demanded a different style of play than Bowman was used to. Once Bowman got frustrated, the 49ers did him a favor. Now the 49ers have Reuben Foster (who returns in Week 3) and Fred Warner as the new linebacking duo. Warner has already drawn comparisons to Bowman http://www.authenticssanfrancisco49ers.com/cheap-marquise-goodwin-jersey , so it’s safe to say the 49ers may not be looking back. Steve Young said that Bill Walsh would have a philosophy of getting players off the team a year before it was too late. It’s been documented that this rubbed several players the wrong way, but it was also necessary to maintain a competitive roster. Given that Bowman remains unsigned into 2018, do you think it corroborates the 49ers decision to release him? Happy Sunday folks, it’s game day! Although our beloved 49ers haven’t been performing quite as well as we’d have hoped at this point in the season, today is the first of a three-game stretch during which the 49ers will face other teams that roughly match their talent level and record. After facing the one-win Cardinals today, the team will play the one-win Raiders the following Thursday, and then the one-win Giants during the week 10 Sunday games. Some might argue that the downside to this stretch of games is the implications it will have upon the draft order, but I’d argue that the immediate upside is that the 49ers will have a pre-season length period of being competitive again. As has been a headline for much of the season, injuries will play a major role in today’s game once again. Richard Sherman, Jimmie Ward, and Matt Breida are all expected to participate today, to varying degrees, after recent bouts of injury. However, Pierre Garcon will not be playing, but the team will be able to rely on rookie Dante Pettis Youth Brock Coyle Jersey , who has recently overcome an injury of his own. I’ve probably mentioned it before, but the clown car/carousel of injuries the 49ers have dealt with this season has become nearly comical in it’s absurdity. Knock on wood (please guys, this is serious), but at least they’ve trimmed the injured list down from it’s high mark from a few weeks ago, of somewhere between 15 and 20 players. The other primary issue plaguing the 2018 49ers has been the insane turnover differential & rate. Although the Cardinals are an objectively bad team, they’re one whose only victory was against our objectively bad team. It was in a game where our squad obliterated them in every meaningful statistic, other than turnovers, and by extension, points. We handed them the game on a silver platter, in what I could only describe, in my (semi-)professional opinion, as a “craptastic” performance. The team’s problems with turnovers have extended through the season, and it is certainly the #1 controllable variable to victory - this week and beyond. If the team wants to start winning, ball security needs to be a top priority, and I hope that this concept sinks in some time before game time today. is halfway through their schedule http://www.49ersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-kyle-juszczyk-jersey , and we kick off the back half of the San Francisco 49ers schedule with an early game! The 49ers are hosting the Oakland Raiders tonight on Thursday Night Football, with kickoff set for 5:20 p.m. PT. It’s a battle of atrocious football teams, with prime draft positioning up for grabs. The 49ers opened as a four-point favorite against the Raiders, but the line has come down to 2.5 at most sportbooks monitored by OddsShark. If you’re inclined to bet the Raiders, you can still find a couple field goal lines. There was line movement almost immediately, which I am guessing is due to getting over a field goal for the Raiders. These are two bad teams playing for draft positioning. Neither team has shown it can do a whole lot of much, and so I imagine a lot of gamblers see a game that ends with maybe a field goal’s difference. In our latest FanPulse survey Pierre Garcon jersey , I picked the 49ers winning by three points. The C.J. Beathard injury is a tough one to assess. I think he ends up playing, but if not Nick Mullens is a mostly unknown quantity. He has done some good things in the preseason, but he has seen no regular season work. I am still laying the 2.5 points with the 49ers in this one, and that’s primarily because of the run game and the Raiders atrocious pass rush. I think we see the 49ers put up some points in part because the quarterback hopefully has some time to make decisions, but also because the Raiders rank poorly against the run. This could be the game the 49ers offense gets on track — at least for one week.49ers fans in aggregate predict a two-point San Francisco win, while Raiders fans predict a four-point Oakland loss. Neither team is confident for the time being, although it is interesting to note Raiders fans have been the most inaccurate in their weekly predictions. They have regularly picked relatively close wins Authentic Laken Tomlinson jersey , and have been wrong with regularity. On the other hand, 49ers fans have at least been able to pick out some losses along the way. Here are a pair of graphics illustrating fan picks vs. actual results.Raiders fan picks49ers fan picksIf you’re still alive in your Survivor pool, the 49ers are not a particularly safe pick if you’re looking to save the big names. Carolina at home against Tampa Bay might be your best bet. Ryan Fitzpatrick is back in the saddle, and I think we see a multi-interception game from him. You could also just play it safe with a big name and use either Chicago over Buffalo or Kansas City over Cleveland. Here are all my straight-up picks for Week 9. I was 8-6 last week, bringing my season record to 78-40-2. That is unbelievable. Even though I don’t expect him to make 192 tackles this season or create a forced fumble every week Youth Marquise Goodwin jersey , I think Fred Warner has shown us that it wasn’t a fluke. He has played consistently well during both training camp and preseason games. I can’t wait to see him playing alongside Reuben Foster. Not only did Warner play well in his first game, both Mike McGlinchey and Dante Pettis did pretty well for it being their first game too. The 49er’s draft record is looking so good I don’t know what to expect. What happens next? Does DJ Reed fill in for Adrian Colbert this week and take his job away from him? Does Kentavious Street return next year and he and Julian Taylor lead the team in sacks? My predictions for this week are, Alfred Morris runs for over 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Matt Breida has a couple of flashy plays for around 35 yards and increases his fan club. Arik Armstead gets his first sack of the season and Deforest Buckner adds at least one and a half more to his season total. Now onto the hot links:Fred Warner hopes to build off promising debutChris BidermanRobert Saleh and Richard Sherman discuss Fred WarnerDavid Bonilla49ers new star Fred Warner on verge of Reuben Foster pairingCam InmanBrian Baldinger says 49ers’ Fred Warner best rookie Week 1David BonillaKittle: ‘He’s just a matchup problem’Eric BranchSeven former 49ers nominated to the Pro Football Hall of FameMattMaiocco49ers release WR Aaron Burbridge with injury settlementKyle MadsonPettis Shows 49ers in Debut That He Can Be a PlaymakerDoug WilliamsJimmy Garoppolo channels Bill BelichickMatt MaiccoSaquon Barkley: ‘The 49ers liked me a lot’ in NFL DraftKyle MadsonLaken Tomlinson’s smarts, skills a fit for 49ers’ offenseMatt MaioccoSolomon Thomas got an ‘earful’ after penalty vs. VikingsDavid BonillaWhat Are the Lions Saying About the 49ers?Kelana MartinKyle Shanahan expects Najee Toran to start at right guardDavid BonillaTop 5 things we learned ThursdayCam Inman
Youth Alfred Morris Jersey , I remember fans anticipating a prime-time showdown between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers. Oakland was coming off of a disappointing season, but hired Jon Gruden and the arrow was pointing up. Across the Bay, the 49ers found a franchise quarterback and strung together five wins to close out last season, building intrigue for 2018.Many thought that the Raiders and 49ers would wind up on opening weekend, but instead the league pushed them back to a Week 9 Thursday Night Football slot. Well, eight weeks into the season and the only similarity between the two teams is the one in the win column. So how did we get from “one of the best games in the schedule” to “a battle for the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft?”The Raiders’ summer was as choppy as the Pacific Ocean, filled with linebacker Khalil Mack trade rumors and odd veteran signings. On the flip side, the 49ers’ biggest storylines were Reuben Foster’s legal issues and Jimmy Garoppolo’s rendezvous with a female friend. Yet, before the season even began, San Francisco lost their starting running back Jerick McKinnon for the season and Oakland pulled off a blockbuster deal, sending Mack to Chicago for multiple draft picks. With a healthy Derek Carr and co., the Raiders are sitting at 1-6. However, in Santa Clara, a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo had led the 49ers to a 1-1 record before getting hurt late in the fourth quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs. With backup C.J. Beathard under center, San Francisco has lost five straight games in maddening fashion. The 49ers’ scoring offense is ranked 23rd in the NFL, while the Raiders’ scoring offense is further down the list at 27th. On the other side of the ball, San Francisco’s scoring defense is ranked 28th, while Raiders trail three spots behind. To this point in the season, Oakland’s dysfunction has been rather inexplicable. They’ve been healthy at major positions and revamped their coaching staff, yet continue to struggle on both sides of the ball. Against the Rams, Chargers and Seahawks Cheap Solomon Thomas Jersey , the Raiders only managed to put up 13, 10 and three points, respectively. Their only win on the season is a three-point OT victory against a Cleveland Browns’ team led by rookie Baker Mayfield in his first start. On the other hand, the 49ers’ issues have been more explicable, as it’s mostly self-inflicted. Kyle Shanahan’s offense has 18 turnovers on the season, ranking 29th in the NFL. Careless giveaways have been the difference in most of their games. Outside of a blowout loss at the hands of the Rams, the 49ers have lost every other game this season by less than 11 points.Oakland had high expectations coming into the season, but instead they’ve regressed, trading two of their three best players for multiple first-round picks. It’s setting up for a full rebuild in Oakland, with Gruden planning on using the first part of his 10-year contract to construct the roster per his wishes. For the 49ers, they were coming into Year 2 of a rebuild, but happened to take a step back with injuries to their best offensive players. The front office has identified major areas of need, primarily pass rush and offensive playmakers, but will have the ammunition to do so after this lost season. While both teams come into Thursday with one win, it’s evident that one team has a plan to address their future, while the other seems to be winging it. The 49ers have a collaborative partnership between John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, while Jon Gruden is seemingly a one-man show in Oakland. The only similarity that the Raiders and 49ers share eight weeks into the season is the number in the win column. Outside of that, their path to this point couldn’t be any more different.Week 2 NFL power rankings The 2018 NFL season is officially one week old. The Monday Night Football doubleheader brought an unexpected New York Jets blowout of the Detroit Lions, and then a blowout Los Angeles Rams win over the Oakland Raiders. I would argue both games were entertaining, just in very different ways. The wrap of Week 1 means it is time to bring back our NFL power rankings. I have ranked out all 32 teams, although after only one week Cheap DeForest Buckner Jersey , there is still more questions than answers. With that in mind, I decided to go with a slightly more objective measurement for this first ranking. I ranked the teams based on point differential. With only one week under our belt, that means the 1-0 teams are the top 15 teams, the 0-1 teams are the bottom 15 teams, and the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are right in the middle!I’ll move to a more subjective basis for these rankings in the coming weeks, but I wanted to use this measurement just to see how crazy this first week was. I realize the blowouts came against bad teams, but even still, it’s worth a look. The San Francisco 49ers show up at No. 25 thanks to their eight point loss to the Minnesota Vikings. It could have been a lot worse, but we saw the 49ers show some life in the second half. They had a legit shot to win the game, but too many mistakes cost them. The Baltimore Ravens lead the way courtesy of a 47-3 thumping of the Buffalo Bills. I would have had the Bills at the bottom of my power rankings even in the subjective format because they look to be the team ready to lead the race to the top pick. The Los Angeles Rams are the closest to a most realistic ranking, sitting third after a second half beatdown of the Oakland Raiders. It looked like the Raiders might spring the upset, but the Rams defense clamped down and the offense caught fire en route to 20 unanswered points in the second half. The Detroit Lions are second from the bottom after Monday’s ugly loss to the New York Jets. The Lions are probably not a bad as they looked, nor the Jets as good as they looked. And yet, the Lions are in rough shape heading into Santa Clara later this week. I’m fascinated to see what the 49ers defensive line can do against the Lions struggling offensive line, and what Jimmy Garoppolo can do against that defense. If I were thinking of this subjectively, I would probably have the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles at the top of the rankings, along with the Los Angeles Rams. Washington is intriguing to me. The switch from Kirk Cousins to Alex Smith is the big question mark for them. Some might view it as an upgrade in consistency, and they looked good in their opener. They host the Indianapolis Colts in a game they should win, and then host the Green Bay Packers in what will be their first big test of the regular season.Week 1 power rankingsRankTeamLWRankTeamLW
as the Baker Mayfield era begins! The Baker Mayfield era has arrived! Bust open the fridges.Cleveland’s long winless streak is over Youth Jabrill Peppers Jersey , as they defeated the Jets 21-17 on Thursday Night Football, improving to 1-1-1 on the season. What had the makings of another embarrassment of a game instead turned a chapter for the organization, as Mayfield relieved an injured Taylor and took charge of the offense in a major way. Let’s recap the action. The Browns’ first quarter was a pathetic showing on offense and special teams. QB Tyrod Taylor was 1-of-7 for 2 yards, and the playcalling did not fool the Jets’ defenders whatsoever. Cleveland’s defense was getting after QB Sam Darnold for several possessions, but then toward the end of the first quarter, RB Nick Chubb whiffed in his protection on special teams, leading to P Britton Colquitt’s punt being partially blocked. That gave the Jets starting field position within field goal range. On the first play of the second quarter, RB Isaiah Crowell punched it in from 7 yards out to give the Jets a 7-0 lead.On the first play of the Browns’ next possession, Taylor had WR Antonio Callaway wide open down the middle of the field for a touchdown. Taylor let the ball hang way too long, though, allowing CB Trumaine Johnson to make up ground for a giving knockaway. Before you knew it, it was another three-and-out for the offense. On the Jets’ next drive, they ran the ball repeatedly down Cleveland’s throat to the left side. Over and over — and then Crowell punched it in again from 2 yards out, making it a 14-0 lead mid-way through the second quarter. After that, the Browns finally moved the ball for the first time all game, but even that was ugly. It needed two 15-yard penalties by CB Trumanie Johnson to be sustained (one unsportsmanlike after a third down incompletion, and another personal foul that allowed for a Cleveland hold to be offset). After getting into field goal range White Terrance Mitchell Jersey , Cleveland had a 2nd-and-2...and then took a timeout, saw Taylor throw to no one deep in the end zone for an intentional ground (while not being pressured), and then was sacked on third down, leading to a punt.Taylor then went to the medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion as rookie QB Baker Mayfield got ready for his debut. Cleveland’s defense forced a quick three-and-out, allowing Mayfield to run the two-minute offense. Mayfield got a couple of completions on darts, but was then sacked for a loss of eight, forcing the team’s final timeout to be burned with 0:49 left and 43 yards away from the end zone. Another completion set the Browns up from 45 yards out, and K Greg Joseph pushed a 45-yard field goal through the uprights to put the team on the board at 14-3.The Jets were unable to move the ball much to begin the third quarter, leading to a punt. The punt, plus a block in the back, forced Mayfield’s first drive to start at the 5 yard line. He was able to move the offense to just past midfield, but the team elected to punt on 4th-and-4 from the 45 yard line. The Jets got a big first down throw on their next drive to WR Robby Anderson, but then CB Denzel Ward stripped the ball away and recovered it, returning it to the 8 yard line. Unfortunately, even that was not good enough to set the offense up for a touchdown, and Mayfield was fortunate that his third-down pass to WR Jarvis Landry wasn’t picked off by the crossing safety. Joseph just barely made a 27-yard field goal to make it a 14-6 game. The defense forced another quick three-and-out, and then Mayfield led the Browns right down the field http://www.authenticsclevelandbrowns.com/cheap-jamie-collins-jersey , including a beautiful catch by Landry down to the 1 yard line. RB Carlos Hyde punched it in from 1 yard out to make it 14-12. The Browns went for two, and after failing the first time, they got a re-do because of offsetting penalties. Cleveland pulled a trick play by having Landry throw a pass to Mayfield for the two-point conversion, tying the game at 14-14!Cleveland’s defense finally yielded points on the Jets’ next drive, but they were able to hold them to a 28-yard field goal with 9 minutes to go, now down 17-14.Mayfield then proceeded to put together a six-minute drive, dropping dimes left and right to his receivers, to get the ball to 1st-and-goal at the 1 yard line. With 2:04 to go, Hyde punched it in again on 3rd down to give the Browns their first lead of the game! The extra point made it 21-17, now putting the game in the hands of the defense. The Jets faced a 4th-and-10 in their own territory, and with all three timeouts, they still decided to go for it. An incredible catch at the marker by WR Jermaine Kearse extended the drive, but on the next play, LB Joe Schobert dove and intercepted Darnold, making up for his dropped pick earlier in the game!Cleveland took over at the Jets’ 43 yard line with 1:21 to go, but it wasn’t over yet because New York still had all three timeouts remaining. The Browns got it down to 4th-and-2 with 1:05 to go at the 34 yard line. Instead of going for it or attempting a 53-yard field goal, they punted down to the 6 yard line with 0:54 left.Darnold’s first pass was a 25-yard completion to WR Terrelle Pryor. On his next play Youth Nick Chubb Jersey , replay review determined Darnold’s knee was down on a sack before he could throw it away. With 0:19 to go, Darnold’s heave was picked off by CB Terrance Mitchell, sealing the win! The last time the Cleveland Browns opened the regular season without Joe Thomas as the starting left tackle was in 2006.That day against the New Orleans Saints Womens David Njoku Jersey , Kevin Shaffer was in his third and final year as the starting left tackle. Shaffer would start all 16 games that season before moving to right tackle the following season as Thomas began his Hall of Fame career. When the Browns take the field on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Desmond Harrison - an undrafted free agent who took a circuitous route to the NFL - will line up at what has been one of the club’s premiere positions for 37 of the franchise’s 72 years of existence. After attending four colleges, not playing for two years, finishing his collegiate career at West Georgia and failing a drug test at the combine, Harrison has seemingly seen it all.The one thing he has not seen, which is at the top of the most important list, is game action against an NFL team’s top defensive line. That test will come quickly on Sunday against the Steelers and Joel Bitonio, who is moving back to his regular position at left guard, was cautiously optimistic about Harrison on Friday, according to ESPN.com:It is a gamble on the Browns part to hand the starter’s role to Harrison given that he had so little time to prepare during training camp and the preseason. There are sure to be bumps along the way, but if everything his coaches and teammates are saying about him is true, Harrison and the Browns may come out of this on the right side of the ledger.Harrison can’t worry about being the next Joe Thomas, Doug Dieken or Lou Groza. He simply needs to keep working to be the best Desmond Harrison he can be.Which, in the end, might turn out to be more than good enough. On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns are at home to take on the Atlanta Falcons. To help preview a few topics from the Falcons’ perspective, we reached out to Dave Choate from The Falcoholic and exchanged five questions with him. Enjoy! The Falcons added pass rusher Bruce Irvin this week.Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty ImagesChris: “The Falcons were hit with some big defensive injuries early in the year, but Atlanta has ripped off three straight wins. Has the defense improved Womens Nick Chubb Jersey , or is it still a major weakness in 2018?”Dave: “The defense has improved, thankfully. They still need to keep this season alive while they wait for Deion Jones to get back and knock off some rust at middle linebacker, but the Falcons have been able to stabilize things a bit by playing a couple of so-so opponents in a row, re-shuffling their personnel a little bit, and getting the pieces to gel a bit. Having a healthy Grady Jarrett has helped the defensive line a ton, sixth round rookie Foye Oluokun has helped out at linebacker, and Damontae Kazee and Sharrod Neasman have stabilized a safety position ravaged by injuries. That said, are they a good defense? No. The pass rush has been lackluster, hence the addition of Bruce Irvin, and up until the Washington game there was one cornerback being burnt to an absolute crisp per game, on average. I’m hopeful they’re rounding the corner but they’ll probably top out as a league-average unit in 2019.”Where have the touchdowns been for Julio Jones?Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty ImagesChris: “Julio Jones has 60 catches for 933 yards, but somehow just got his FIRST touchdown of the season last week. Isn’t that odd? Or has rookie Calvin Ridley been stealing all of those looks?”Dave: “The Falcons have been successful this season through the air for many reasons, but one of them is that teams can’t avoid doubling Julio Jones often, and that leads to open looks for other receivers. In years past, the Falcons have still tried very hard to get Julio the ball in the red zone, with decidedly mixed results. The difference this year is that they haven’t been focusing on that, and have instead focused on getting open looks. It’s not a coincidence that they’re scoring at a much higher clip when they’re not trying to force the ball to Julio in the end zone.It may be that Julio has some weird aversion to scoring that we haven’t identified, but the simplest explanation is that he’s dangerous in space and less dangerous when he can’t run free and there are multiple defenders responsible for him when things squeeze together in the red zone. Fortunately Authentic Duke Johnson Jersey , having to account for him has given Mohamed Sanu, Calvin Ridley, Tevin Coleman and the rest of the gang room to run, and they’ve taken advantage of it.”The Falcons have some weaknesses on the offensive line, not including Alex Mack.Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty ImagesChris: “Cleveland struggled to generate a pass rush a few weeks ago against the Steelers’ offensive line. I know the Falcons are well-equipped with Alex Mack at center, but how has the rest of the line been -- any weaknesses?”Dave: “There are real weaknesses. I’m cautiously optimistic that this line is turning a difference after two straight solid performances, but theoretically you could tee off on at least three guys on this line. Wes Schweitzer at left guard is a mobile, capable pass protector who can be overpowered and sometimes outworked at the point of attack, while Ben Garland is perhaps a bit stronger but pretty similar at right guard. Ryan Schraeder had been a liability for weeks at right tackle before he righted the ships in a big way against Washington, and if you want to be on that being a fluke, I wouldn’t blame you. Only Jake Matthews at left tackle and Mack at center have been great all year. The Steelers are the team to emulate here, as they were absolutely fearless about going Matt Ryan and kept him off balance or on the ground all day. If Schweitzer, Garland and Schraeder are up to the task this week, though, you just have to hope for the best and try to get Myles Garrett some unfettered access to the quarterback by hook or crook.”Rookie CB Isaiah Oliver has been up and down.Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty ImagesChris: “Atlanta drafted DB Isaiah Oliver in the second round of this year’s draft. How has he performed in limited action this season?”Dave: “It has been an up-and-down season for the rookie cornerback. Earlier in the year, he couldn’t really get much playing time, and the playing time he did get showed why he wasn’t quite ready for primetime. He was memorably beaten a couple of times in the Cincinnati game in particular. However, he has the length Womens Myles Garrett Jersey , athleticism and instincts you look for in a cornerback in this scheme, by and large, and I thought he looked much better in a full-time start against Washington a week ago. He was beaten by Josh Doctson a couple of times on ridiculous catches down the sideline but looked much better and should be able to carve out a role going forward. With Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford making a lot of money and being on the wrong side of 30 either now or in 2019, the Falcons would like him to step up sooner than later.”Ito Smith has stepped up at running back for the Falcons.Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty ImagesChris: “Tell us about one player on offense and one player on defense who Browns fans may not have heard of, but who have been playing a nice role for the Falcons in 2018.”Dave: “On offense, your fantasy footballers will already know Ito Smith, but I’m going to mention him anyways. He wasn’t the most heralded back in this draft class, but the Falcons got a steal in the fourth round. With Devonta Freeman missing most of the year, Smith has been a key part of the rushing attack, and has shown good hands, solid blocking skills and a lot of physicality and wiggle to his game. Some of his scoring runs this year have reminded me of Freeman at his very best.On defense, Damontae Kazee is the man. He was the team’s third safety heading into the season, but had to step in due to injuries. He has his lapses, but he covers extremely well, has four picks this year and has shown a real nose for the ball, and hits like a train. The Falcons are going to be spoiled at the safety position when Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal are healthy next year, but in the meantime Kazee is one of the team’s most dynamic defenders.”Thanks again to Dave for taking the time to answer my questions. ankle during practice Thursday and underwent surgery.A team spokesman said Wylie got hurt during Thursday's workout as the Browns prepared to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. There were no immediate details on how the popular Wylie Youth Larry Ogunjobi Jersey , who is in his second season with Cleveland, was injured.Wylie is resting at University Hospitals and will likely miss the home finale.Wylie was relatively unknown before his appearances on HBO's "Hard Knocks" series this summer made the big-bellied coach a favorite with Browns fans, who loved how he mocked players needing to stretch and how his stomach bounced when he yelled, "set, hut" during drills. This week, the Browns released a video with Cleveland's offensive lineman prancing like reindeer pushed Wylie on a blocking sled while dressed as Santa Claus .On Wednesday White Kevin Zeitler Jersey , Browns guard Joel Bitonio said his teammates were initially leery of doing the video."And then we went out there and filmed it and it's been a hit," Bitonio said. "Anything that Bob has done this year I think has been a hit. It just shows, honestly, he's one of the best human beings I've been around. He's a great coach but what he does off the field 鈥?he takes care of the people in the building and he's just a great dude. So to do something like that and show people kind of a fun side." The Cleveland Browns waived linebacker James Burgess with an injury designation and placed receiver Rod Streater on injured reserve. To fill their roster spots, the team promoted receiver Da’Mari Scott and linebacker Xavier Woodson-Luster from its practice squad. To fill those two practice squad spots, the team signed former quarterback turned receiver Blake Jackson and offensive lineman Jake Eldrenkamp. After missing Week 1 White Damarious Randall Jersey , Burgess played in two games before spraining his knee in the team’s Week 3 win over the Jets. He missed the next two games but returned in Week 6. Burgess didn’t survive Week 6, though, suffering a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter. The team, already needy at linebacker with Joe Schobert slated to miss some time, decided to move on from its lesser-known reserve backer.Burgess stood out during training camp and preseason, as he had last year while playing a significant role for the depleted Browns linebacker corps. He finishes the 2018 season with seven total tackles http://www.authenticsclevelandbrowns.com/cheap-briean-boddy-calhoun-jersey , including one for a loss, in two starts and three appearances for the Browns. If Burgess is not picked up by a team on waivers, he will revert to the Browns injured reserve list assuming they don’t reach an injury settlement. He could be designated to return, but would have to miss a minimum of eight games before returning to game action.Woodson-Luster was signed to the team’s practice squad on Saturday. He spent the preseason with Buffalo before being released during final roster cuts.Da’Mari Scott spent the entire offseason and preseason with the Browns before falling victim to final roster cuts himself. He will probably be active on gameday as the Browns’ fourth or fifth receiver, but he may actually see snaps in Week 7. Scott developed a good rapport with Baker Mayfield while playing on the team’s second unit during preseason and camp. He knows the playbook, too http://www.authenticsclevelandbrowns.com/cheap-derrick-kindred-jersey , so he’ll likely have an advantage over newly-acquired wideout Breshad Perriman.Jackson is a former quarterback who was cut by the Browns during final roster cuts.Eldrenkamp is officially in his first season out of Washington after going undrafted in 2017 and spending time on the Los Angeles Rams practice squad. He’s listed as a center but can possibly provide depth at the guard position, should the Browns need it down the road. Eldrenkamp was released by the Rams on Friday before final roster cuts and has worked out for the Lions recently.Streater’s fractured neck means he’s probably not going to be eligible to return this season. Later today Antonio Garcia Jersey , the New England Patriots will play their much-anticipated week six game against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs. The team’s front office, however, has set its sights not just on the game: according to ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss, the team recently brought in five free agents for workouts. Let’s take a look at them.DE Will ClarkeSince entering the NFL as a third-round draft pick in 2014, Will Clarke appeared in a combined 55 games for the Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Playing primarily as a rotational pass rusher, the West Virginia product registered 7.0 sacks over the course of his career – with 4.0 of which coming during his best season, 2016. Clarke, who also has special teams experience, was let go by the Buccaneers twice this season so far and hit the open market again earlier this week.QB Connor CookA fourth-round draft pick by the Oakland Raiders in 2016, Connor Cook served as the team’s third-string quarterback for his two years with the club. Due to being buried on the depth chart, the 6’4, 220 lbs passer appeared in only two games so far in his career – with his first career start coming in the postseason. Overall, the 25-year old completed 32 of 66 pass attempts for 311 yards Dont'a Hightower Jersey , two touchdowns and four interceptions. Cook was let go by Oakland during this year’s roster cutdowns and subsequently joined the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad.LB Kasim EdebaliFollowing a career at Boston College, Kasim Edebali went undrafted in 2014. Since then, the6’2, 250 lbs linebacker has played for six different teams – the last of which the Chicago Bears, who had him on their roster this offseason. Overall, Edebali appeared in 61 games over the course of his career as a depth edge defender and special teamer. He saw most of his action with the New Orleans Saints between 2014 and 2016, when he played 48 games and registered 8.0 sacks.WR Devin RossDespite a comparatively productive career at Colorado, Devin Ross went unselected in this year’s draft. Instead, the now-23-year old joined the Tennessee Titans as a free agent. The 5’9, 190 lbs receiver, who plays primarily from the slot, had a solid preseason – catching six passes for 80 yards – but injured his ankle in the final game before roster cuts. As a result, he was placed on injured reserve but later released with an injury settlement. His workout indicates that the settlement period is now over and Ross healthy enough to play again.TE Shane WimannAfter being named first-team all-MAC during his senior campaign Authentic Joe Thuney Jersey Salute to Service , Northern Illinois’ Shane Wimann went undrafted. The Patriots picked him up as a free agent shortly afterwards but the 24-year old failed to make an impact and was let go again early during his first NFL training camp: Wimann was let go with an injury designation and reverted to the injured reserve list. The rookie and the Patriots agreed to an injury settlement two weeks later, allowing him to hit the open market again. Yes, the Patriots have clinched a 10th consecutive division title, but they are an anomaly. For 29 consecutive seasons (1990-2018), the NFL has turned over at least 25 percent of the playoff field from one year to the next.Five teams already qualified for the playoffs after missing the postseason in 2017 — the Bears, Cowboys, Texans, Chargers and Seahawks. The Ravens and Colts still could qualify for the postseason after staying home during the playoffs last season.Since the 12-team playoff format was adopted in 1990, at least four teams have qualified for the playoffs in every season that were not in the postseason the previous year. Chicago has clinched a division title after a last place finish a year ago. In 15 of the past 16 seasons, at least one team has gone from last or tied for last place to a division championship. If Houston clinches the AFC South on Sunday, it would mark the second consecutive season that two teams go from worst to first (Jacksonville and Philadelphia in 2017). That is something that has never happened in any other major U.S. sport.
Irving Fryar Jersey Salute to Service , but he’s already made a big impression on his teammates. And they think in the future, he’s going to do much bigger things.Via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Patriots wideout Julian Edelman said he was impressed with how quickly Gordon has acclimated since coming over in a trade with the Browns.“Dude works hard. Great teammate. I really think he can be a really big piece of us,” Edelman said.“It’s exciting to be around him. He loves football, you can tell. He knows his stuff. It’s getting more and more fun the more he knows.”Despite being limited to 18 snaps in each of his first two games by a lack of familiarity and a hamstring issue, Gordon caught his first touchdown pass from Tom Brady last week. And with Gordon getting more comfortable and Edelman back from his PED suspension, the Patriots are getting close to having a full deck on offense, just in time for Sunday night’s matchup with the Chiefs 鈥?when they’ll need every point possible. New England wins its fourth game in a row, first on the road, and somehow dropped a notch or two in the eyes of some of the experts. For whatever the reason - the win came against the wrong team, score was too close, defense allowed too many points, game was too sloppy, etc... sometimes the team can’t seem to win even after a win.Who knew there were so many qualifiers (or disqualifiers) involved in the outcome? To keep it simple, I now follow the Bill Belichick school of “score more points than the other team” in determining each winner, but that’s just me. One of the many (many) reasons why I’ll never be considered an expert.Interestingly, the Patriots are in the same place as the 2017 standings, 5-2 and roughly ranked between 2nd and 3rd place in the league - even if the media vibe this year feels worse. As Belichick told the team in Sunday’s post-game locker room, “We’ve got a big division game this week... need everyone rested, ready to go...” Already making it clear the organization will not be taking the Buffalo Bills lightly. No matter anyone else trying to call this a blowout or a cakewalk, and despite the Pats opening as 13-point favorites John Hannah Jersey , division games are different animals, especially on the road.So kudos to the Patriots for righting the ship with 4-straight wins and here’s to putting a bit more distance between them the rest of the AFC East on Monday night.Pats win by 17.GO PATS!Around the AFC East:Monday Night: (5-2) New England Patriots at (2-5) Buffalo BillsThursday Night: (4-3) Miami Dolphins at (4-3) Houston Texans(3-4) New York Jets at (3-3) Chicago BearsAFC Matchups:(2-4-1) Cleveland Browns at (3-2-1) Pittsburgh Steelers(3-4) Denver Broncos at (6-1) Kansas City Chiefs(2-5) Indianapolis Colts at (1-5) Oakland Raiders(4-3) Cincinnati Bengals vs (3-3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers(4-3) Baltimore Ravens at (4-2) Carolina Panthers(3-4) Jacksonville Jaguars vs (3-4) Philadelphia EaglesBye Weeks: (5-2) Los Angeles Chargers; (3-4) Tennessee Titans************************************************2nd - Nate Davis (USA Today): They’ve scored at least 38 points four weeks in a row. That’s bound to get harder if Sony Michel or Gronk are down for significant periods.2nd - Elliot Harrison (NFL.com): The Patriots keep winning, with everyone contributing. On Sunday, Josh Gordon made his presence felt -- trucking Bears defenders en route to a near catch-and-run touchdown -- even if he did fail to bat down that Hail Mary ball at the end. Which brings me to Duron Harmon, who deserves kudos for his heads-up approach to that bang-bang play. It was difficult to decipher who made the catch, but Harmon saw that Chicago receiver Kevin White was lumbering forward with the football, a foot away from forcing overtime. That’s when Harmon was Duronny-on-the-spot with a stiff tackle. James White must need a stiff drink, considering how many little things he does -- and how many hits he absorbs while doing them.2nd - Expert Consensus (Bleacher Report): From a quick look at the stat sheet, one would think the New England Patriots lost to the Chicago Bears Sunday. The Patriots were outgained in the game, 453 to 381. The Patriots had fewer first downs, lost the turnover and time-of-possession battles, and converted a lower percentage of third downs. Mitchell Trubisky even had more passing yards than Tom Brady. And yet, the Pats managed to pull out a seven-point victory, thanks in large part to not one but two special teams touchdowns—one on a kick return and the other on a blocked punt.It was an effort that left Davenport equal parts nonplussed and impressed.“The Patriots didn’t have Rob Gronkowski and got outplayed in many aspects, and still, somehow, it was New England who wound up winning this game,” Davenport said. “This is what makes the Pats so aggravatingly dangerous. Even when they aren’t playing their best, the Patriots are convinced they will somehow win the game. And then they do.”2nd - Joshua Schrock (NESN): There was no letdown for Tom Brady and Co. after their shootout win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots scored two specials teams touchdowns and survived a Mitchell Trubisky Hail Mary to beat the Chicago Bears 38-31. New England lost running back Sony Michel to injury, though, making its backfield even thinner than it already was.2nd - Rebecca Toback (SB Nation): The Dolphins are making the AFC East competitive this year as it’s not just the Patriots who have a winning record in the division. With that said Authentic Tedy Bruschi Jersey , it’s hard to imagine anyone other than New England winning the AFC East as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick shook off a rough start and have won four straight. The Jets are better than they were last year now that they have a franchise quarterback under center in Sam Darnold, but they’re not real contenders this year. As for the Bills, they’re pretty much a lost cause. At least Buffalonians can look forward to rookie quarterback Josh Allen’s eventual return from elbow injury. Unfortunately, that return won’t come in time for Monday Night Football against the Patriots.2nd - Staff (AP Pro32).3rd - Frank Schwab (Yahoo! Sports): We shouldn’t just gloss over the Patriots’ win. To win on the road against a good Bears team without Rob Gronkowski, after Sony Michel got hurt, was a quality victory. The Patriots are clearly back to being the Patriots, and the news that Michel’s knee injury isn’t serious is great for them.3rd - Mark Maske (Washington Post): The victory in Chicago came at a cost, with the knee injury suffered by rookie RB Sony Michel. The injury is not considered serious. But for now, it leaves James White and Kenjon Barner as the only healthy running backs on the roster, so the Patriots will have to address that need.3rd - Pete Prisco (CBS Sports): They needed two special-teams touchdowns to beat the Bears, but that’s what they do. Here come the Patriots.3rd - Mike Florio (ProFootballTalk): With Derek Anderson at quarterback, the Patriots should only fear flying objects other than footballs when they return to Bills.3rd - Experts (ESPN): Need more from: DE Adrian Clayborn. He was held without a sack after the Patriots signed him in the offseason until finally getting on the board Sunday with one against the Bears. New England has recorded a sack on just 3 percent of opponents’ pass attempts, the worst rate in the NFL. -- Bryan Larson3rd - Joe Giglio (NJ.com): Beating the Bears is a positive, obviously. But these Patriots are far from the seemingly invincible teams we’re used to seeing Bill Belichick run out there. Still, they keep finding a way to get the job done.4th - MMQB Staff (SI): Four straight wins, and suddenly the Patriots are in the driver’s seat in the AFC East with an inside track to a first round bye, like nothing ever happened at all. But the Pats did drop two spots after their close call against Chicago.4th - Russell S. Baxter (Fansided): Playoff hopes: After stumbling to find itself early in the season, the Patriots have now won four straight games and at 5-2, are all alone atop the division they have won each of the previous nine years. The team has now found a way to score at least 38 points in each of those last four outings and look awfully dangerous once again.5th - Bryan Fischer (Athlon Sports): The Pats’ defense continues to limit the ceiling for this team but when they’re getting extra scores from special teams, it is going to be incredibly hard to beat them.Week 8 Average Rank: 2.9 (-0.4) NATION SAMPLING:2nd - Brandon Lee Gowton (BleedingGreenNation): The Pats are riding a four-game winning streak after a quality win in Chicago.2nd - David Fucillo (NinersNation)
Limited Duron Harmon Jersey , odds, Patriots rooting guide, open thread Week three of the NFL season is slowly coming to an end with only one game left on the schedule: Monday night’s matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – a game that sees two teams going at each other that have surprising records at this point during the season: the Steelers have yet to win a game, while the Buccaneers sit at 2-0 behind a surprisingly effective Ryan Fitzpatrick.Tonight’s game should therefore be more interesting than one would have thought before the season.Broadcast informationPittsburgh Steelers (0-1-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)Game time: September 24, 2018; 8:15 p.m. E.TVenue: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa FLTV: ESPN national broadcast with Joe Tessitore (play-by-play) Lawrence Guy Jersey , Jason Witten (color commentary), Booger McFarland (analysis) and Lisa Salters (sideline reporter).Live stream: watchESPN, fubo.TV, NFL Game Pass (for international viewers)Odds: Buccaneers -1; O/U 54.5Patriots rooting guideThis one is pretty straight forward: the Patriots do not want the AFC team to win, even though the Steelers have started slowly into the season. A Buccaneers victory would put more pressure on a Pittsburgh organization that is dealing with the Le’Veon Bell situation on top of not having won a game yet. Go Bucs!Open threadUse the comment section below to discuss the game, and please remember to be friendly to one another. The bad-rule-applied-correctly on Sunday created a screwy outcome for one reason and one reason only: Nobody bothered to pick up the ball that ended up on the ground loose after what turned out to be a catch and a fumble by Bears receiver Anthony Miller. Most if not all players are coached to do otherwise. Patriots coach Bill Belichick again coached his players to do it on Monday Authentic David Andrews Jersey Salute to Service , consistent with the practice characterized by former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison at halftime of Sunday’s game.“We hit it again today,” Belichick told reporters on Monday. “As Rodney said, we鈥檝e been through it a thousand times but we went through some of those things again today just to make sure everybody understands what we want to do and how important it is to do the right thing in situations like that or other game-type situations. Again, there are so many close plays in all these games — fumble, no fumble, score Limited Steve Grogan Jersey , no score, catch, no catch, did it cross the goal line, did it not cross the goal line. It seemed like there were a dozen of those kind of plays just in this weekend so every inch, every little thing is so important. We鈥檝e emphasized it before and we鈥檒l continue to do that.”And that’s one of the reasons why Belichick and the Patriots have five Super Bowl wins Trey Flowers Jersey , and why they’ve been getting ready for a game in the round of eight every January for the last nine.
His interview on ESPN Sunday morning made a stir Color Rush Alec Ogletree Jersey , he dropped a pass on fourth down, botched a punt return that turned into a Panthers touchdown, threw a touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley, caught a touchdown and caught eight passes for 131 yards in the team’s 33-31 loss. After that game came to an end, Beckham was asked about the interview that kicked the day off.Beckham said he was “trying to be a leader” when he said that he thinks the Giants have lacked heart and energy this season and disputed a report that he apologized to the team for saying it on Saturday night. He did speak to the team, however, and said he is “proud of where we went today.”“I don’t regret anything that I said,” Beckham said, via NJ.com. “If it took that for us to come together as a team, like we did today, I can take that every single time. I kind of spoke to the team, just to relay the message that sometimes stuff comes off the wrong way. Words can be portrayed in any kind of light. … The words were between us. The way we responded to what was said, I feel like it would have been too easy after what was said, and what I said to them, to come in here and fight and have heart, energy, grit, whatever words you want to use for that, we had it today. But Youth Eli Manning Jersey , we came up short. But, I’m proud of this team. This is the team that we’re going got be for the rest of the season.”In the interview, Beckham also said he doesn’t know if Eli Manning is part of what’s been wrong with the offense. He said that he’s had a conversation with Manning as well, but did not share any of the details.Head coach Pat Shurmur also addressed Beckham’s comments after the game and declared the issue “finito” because it had been dealt with in the locker room.BBV Mailbag: Season-opening edition A new NFL season has already begun, and the New York Giants join the party Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With that in mind, let’s dip into the Big Blue View mailbag and see what tumbles out.Ed says: Dorian, I’m really not sure about Bashaud Breeland. I would think that if the Giants had interest they would have gone after him by now. Perhaps it’s money, don’t know. I do know that the Giants have been pretty aggressive in churning their roster at cornerback to try and get it right, and I think that might continue if they don’t like what they see from the guys they have.CTscan123 asks: OK, my question is essentially “can you reassure me, Ed?“ with the release of web who played well this summer to say nothing of Andrew Adams, The trading away of Brett Jones, a seemingly capable center, the signing of Jonathan Stewart, an over the hill running back, the presumed faith in Patrick Omameh, a seriously subpar guard according to PFF, and taking on the salary of Alex Ogletree who seems to be a complete liability in coverage. Can you reassure me?Ed says: Well, CT I’m not a psychiatrist. You seem to have tied yourself in knots over this. Listen Color Rush Kareem Martin Jersey , no one is ever going to agree with every move any general manager makes. That’s just the reality of life. Not every move is going to work out. Another reality. The NFL is a salary cap league where you can’t just write a blank check and get every player you want. You only have seven draft picks (the Giants only had six in the last draft) and you have to wait your turn. That means you can’t fix every problem in one offseason, and you will never, ever build an absolutely perfect roster. Again, a reality. What I like is that Gettleman and Shurmur have their priorities in the right place. They recognized the need to improve the offensive line and have aggressively tried to do something about it. They recognized the need to run the ball better, and have tried to address it. They recognized the need for better linebacker play. Trading for Ogletree meant taking on a bad contract, but at least they tried to do something about it.I have no idea how many games the Giants will win. Maybe not drafting Sam Darnold will blow up in their face. What I do know is that I feel much better about the direction of the Giants with Gettleman and Shurmur making decisions than I did with Jerry Reese and Ben McAdoo. That’s all the reassurance I can offer, CT. Hope it helps!Jerrry Panza asks: (I) was wondering if my feelings about the Giants being unfair to Davis Webb have any validity?Ed says: Thanks for the question, Jerry. I think a lot of fans feel the way that you do. Quite honestly, though, I don’t believe the current Giants regime was unfair to Webb in the least. If you want to say McAdoo and the Giants screwed up with Webb last season, fine. They did.McAdoo didn’t get him ready to play, and he was left without experience he should have had. Gettleman and Shurmur, not to mention the rest of the league, ended up without game tape they could have used to help evaluate the kid.The current Giants regime wasn’t unfair to Webb at all. They gave him a ton of reps, a ton of opportunities to show them what he could do. Shurmur, who has had success with a wide variety of quarterbacks, was around him for months to learn what he was about. In the end, the Giants made a judgment. That’s all. It wasn’t one that was expected. It wasn’t a popular one, I think because the media had hopped on the Webb Train and the fans rode along. They chose Kyle Lauletta Authentic Riley Dixon Jersey , a player whose skill set and personality appear to be a better fit for what Shurmur likes to work with. There is a misconception that this choice was about Alex Tanney, and maybe again if you read the voluminous 53-man roster projections that had both Webb and Lauletta in and Tanney out that might be where it comes from. This wasn’t about Tanney vs. Webb. It was about Lauletta vs. Webb. Shurmur has said repeatedly since announcing the 53-man roster that he wanted a quarterback with experience on the roster. Forget having only played in one regular season game. Tanney has been in the NFL since 2012, and Shurmur values the knowledge that comes with that. The Giants simply chose Lauletta. Fair to Webb or unfair, that’s life in the NFL. New regimes come in, they make choices, and sometimes those choices are hard to understand. Shurmur and Gettleman are the ones with the necks on the line. They have to go with the players they believe in — not the ones Reese believed in.Ed says: Neil, I’m not sure you’re a Yankee legend, but, thanks for the question. I have said many times that in my view a playoff berth is necessary to consider this a successful season. The Giants put aside the idea of finding a quarterback of the future (cough, cough Sam Darnold) because they felt like they can still win now with Eli Manning. They went all-in to do just that. So, guess what? Now, they have to win in the short term with Eli Manning. That doesn’t mean they have to win Super Bowl titles. But, they need to be a good, competitive, playoff-caliber team. A Manning-less future is coming, the Giants have just chosen to push it down the road. They need to be right, or their plan in my view is unsuccessful. Now, good things can still happen if they don’t make the playoffs. A lot of good things already have happened. For me, though Youth Evan Engram Jersey , there has to be a playoff berth to consider 2018 a truly successful season.Ed says: Thanks, Howard! You raise a point that I’ve been trying to make. The guys the Giants cut were let go for a reason. The Giants were 3-13 a year ago, which means they didn’t have really good players. As of now, Romeo Okwara (Detroit Lions) is the only ex-Giant released since Saturday to land on a 53-man roster. Davis Webb (New York Jets), Robert Thomas (Buffalo Bills), Andrew Adams (Philadelphia Eagles) are on practice squads. That’s it.Teams are not exactly tripping over themselves to get at the players the Giants are parting with. That should tell you something.Ed says: Well, maybe they think they don’t need one. Remember, the Giants are going to spend most of their time in a two-tight end set this season, probably with Evan Engram functioning as a pseudo-third wide receiver. There is also the matter of money. Plus, do you really want Dez? I mean, c’mon! The Giants don’t need to deal with that.Remember, too, that the three reserve wide receivers — Cody Latimer, Russell Shepard and Kaelin Clay — are all critical members of the special teams units. Latimer will return kickoffs and be on coverage teams. Clay will return punts. Shepard is an outstanding gunner and terrific blocker on returns. That’s important. There is too much obsession about the third wide receiver. Three-wide is no longer the Giants base package. Let’s move on.
The first half of the New York Giants’ third preseason game against the New York Jets was a roller coaster for the Giants. The game started on a rough note as Sam Darnold and the Jets’ offense drove the field on the Giants’ starting defense http://www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com/patrick-omameh-jersey , largely moving the ball at will en route to a touchdown. When the Giants got the ball for their first possession they showed some promise, but the running game simply spun its wheels and the defense was soon back on the field. This time the result was much better, with the Giant’s defense quickly forcing the Jets backwards and getting a quick three and out. Hunter Sharp then got the Giants on the board with a great 55-yard punt return for a touchdown. It was an exciting play and could prove to be the difference in a roster spot for Sharp, but it remains to be seen whether or not it will be enough offset two drives killed by dropped passes by Sharp. The Giants’ defense once again asserted its dominance, getting the ball back for the offense after four plays, including an intentional grounding by Darnold. The Giants capitalized on their momentum with a big play-action bomb from Eli Manning that could have been a walk-in touchdown had the pass not been underthrown. The very next play Jonathan Stewart lost the ball, which the Jets recovered and eventually punched in to the endzone for their second score. The Giants had a second special teams play when Ray-Ray Armstrong, who was on the field with the starting defense as a nickel linebacker http://www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com/kareem-martin-jersey , knocked the ball loose on a kick-off return, which was picked up by Jerell Adams. The Giants couldnt’ get the touchdown, but did Aldrick Rosas completed his third field goal to go ahead 16-13. He finished four for four in the first half.Overall, we are seeing a much more aggressive offense than we have become used to seeing from the Giants. Eli Manning consistently attacked downfield, largely placing the ball well and consistently finding open receivers. Manning finished the half going 17 for 23 (73.9 percent), for 188 yards (8.2 yards per attempt). On the defensive side of the ball, Dalvin Tomlinson proved to be a difference maker, consistently stuffing the run and creating havoc in the backfield. Meanwhile http://www.newyorkgiantsteamonline.com/aldrick-rosas-jersey , preseason monster Kerry Wynn nearly came up with an interception in the Jets’ 2-minute drill. Evan Engram left the game in the second half and is OUT with a concussion. The Giants will get the ball to start the second half after the Jets chose to receive the opening kickoff. As Eli Manning has struggled through another disappointing season, there’s been talk in New York that he could be replaced as the Giants’ starting quarterback by rookie Kyle Lauletta. But Lauletta isn’t helping make his case that he should be the face of the franchise. The Jersey Journal reports that Lauletta was arrested Tuesday morning while driving to the team’s practice facility after he failed to obey a police officer’s directions and came close to striking the officer with his vehicle.“We are aware of the situation and are in contact with Kyle,” a Giants official said. “We are still gathering information.”Although Lauletta has been the third-string quarterback behind both Manning and Alex Tanney, the Giants liked him enough coming out of Richmond that they chose him in the fourth round of the draft, and there’s increasing talk that he should be given a shot to show what he can do before the season is over.Given that the Giants are 1-7 and their offense couldn’t get much worse, it’s easy to picture Lauletta getting a chance at some point this season. But it’s also easy to picture the Giants concluding that if Lauletta can’t keep himself out of trouble when he knows he’s being considered for the starting job, that means he isn’t mature enough to be their starting quarterback.
